Joshua Muggleton - Articles and Media Work[ Short Bio | Back to my Home page | My YearDot Page | Speaking Engagements | Blog | Twitter | NAS Surrey Website ] |
Here are some articles I have written, speeches I have made and other media work undertaken.
Here's the speech I delivered in the House of Commons on the 24th May 2006 at the start of the NAS Education Campaign. I passionately believe that this campaign is crucial for educating aspies and auties at whatever age, in whatever situation. This is an issue very close to my heart and I believe everyone should give their full support to this very worthy cause.Click here to visit the NAS Make School Make Sense campaign website, and take action now.
For far too long this country has been creating a workforce of mainstream teachers who haven’t a clue about how to adapt their environment and teaching style. It’s not the teachers’ fault - because they received no specific training. But the result is a generation of autistic children – failed by schools not designed for us, and by teachers who didn’t understand us. This has got to stop. Training mainstream teachers is one of the key objectives of the "Make School Make Sense" Campaign. My former girlfriend and I devised Compass to define what teachers need to be taught about ASD's.
In Summer 2006 I spoke at an anti-bullying conference - you can download my presentation and my accompanying notes. Here's a review of my presentation, originally written for the now sadly missed urcountyursay.net website
I was interviewed on BBC Radio 5 for Anti-bullying week in November 2006. You can also read an interview I did for BBC Online. I hope it helps to raise the issue of bullying for kids like me in schools.
In December 2006 I was featured in the BBC Radio 4 series "Am I Normal?". You can listen to it here. You need to have Real Player installed on your computer.
In Summer 2007 I was interviewed for More 4 News for an item about Autism, the use of computers and the Autistic Liberation Front. Here's a link to the Channel 4 page. Click on the "Watch the Report" link to view the video. There is a direct link to the video here.
I have been interviewed twice by Disability Now magazine. You can read a very short interview for their January 2007 edition here and a longer interview in their September 2007 edition here.
I was invited by the NAS to speak at the internal launch of their "Think differently About Autism" Campaign on the 25th October 2007. Here's what I said.
My voice was recorded for the animated series Troubled Minds - Four Stories which was shown on TV in 2008 and can be viewed online here. Asperger's Syndrome is the 3rd short story of this 15 minute programme.
I was interviewed live by CNN
during their feature marking World Autism Awareness Day 2nd April 2008.
You will probably need a broadband connection in order to view my 5 minute interview.
Please
note that the sound and video quality is not as good as it could be.
That's due to a faulty cable tv connection, transfer from video tape,
and the fact that the interview was done over Skype. Watch more of the
CNN special coverage here.
I was interviewed by the BBC opening up my A-level exam results in Bath on 14th August 2008. You will probably need a broadband connection in order to view the short interview which is followed by 2 other students talking about their results.
You can read my interview in the Daily Mirror in August 2009 as part of their coverage featuring X Factor contestant Scott James who has Asperger Syndrome.
An academic paper I wrote on Asperger syndrome and the importance of schemata was published by Brookdale Care in June 2010.

You can also view my blog which has my collected thoughts from July 2006.
